Young Marshall is collapsed on the floor of the concrete punishment chamber, his back and ass showing the evidence of a terrible beating. He is allowed a couple hours of rest before being dragged to the cross, blurry and exhausted, unaware of what is happening, even as his raw back and ass are dropped on the wood and his wrists and ankles are strapped to it. Moments later, still dazed, Marshall feels himself being lifted and he recalls the power of the cross, its ability to inflict unrelenting strain on every muscle in his body.
